West Fraser, a renowned diversified wood products company with a global footprint, trusted D7 Pneumatics with this crucial initiative. Over a span of six months, from March to September 2019, a dedicated team from D7 Pneumatics strategically executed a multifaceted plan. The project required a one-month shutdown of the McDavid facility condensing the workload into concentrated 12-hour workdays and encompassed the installation of hydraulic and lube piping, fire protection systems, pneumatic piping, and the meticulous relocation of the mill's compressors.

The comprehensive upgrade not only modernized the processing capabilities of the Optimil canter line but also enhanced the overall operational efficiency of West Fraser's facility. The successful collaboration aligns with West Fraser's commitment to responsibly sourced and sustainably managed forest resources.

In the aftermath of a significant fire incident in November 2017 that destroyed a substantial portion of the Tolko Lakeview sawmill, D7 Mechanical was contracted to undertake the subsequent rebuild.

Tasked with the demolition of the old fire protection system and the installation of critical infrastructure, including underground utilities, fire protection, hydraulic & pneumatic piping, as well as plumbing & heating, D7 Mechanical led a large crew of 35 throughout the project.

The Lakeview Lumber Division, acquired by Tolko in 2004 as part of the Riverside Forest Products purchase, has emerged as a modern, competitive facility following the extensive redesign and rebuilding efforts. Presently employing 190 individuals, the mill stands as a testament to resilience and strategic preparation for the industry challenges of the future.

This project exemplifies D7 Mechanical's commitment to instrumental roles in large-scale reconstruction endeavors.

In 2019, D7 Pneumatics were contracted by Interfor's Eatonton Mill in Georgia to provide vital assistance with the upgrade of their planer mill.

Our experienced team was responsible for critical aspects, including underground utilities and fire protection for the new planer mill project and dry lumber sheds. Over an extended period, from September 2019 to January 2021, we successfully completed our role in the upgrade.

Interfor's Eatonton Division, a 39-acre site acquired from Rayonier in March 2013, is a crucial facility for turning cut and seasoned boards into finished dimensional lumber, shipping its finished products both by truck and rail, contributing significantly to Interfor’s lumber supply chain.

Our work on this project was part of a comprehensive rebuild of Interfor’s Eatonton Division - which was completed in 2022 - to align with their commitment to enhancing efficiency and operational capabilities. The rebuild's scope involved the overhaul of the planing mill, which houses various machines, including planers, matchers, molding machines, and a range of saws.

In February 2023, D7 Pneumatics and D7 Industrial collaborated on a project at Interfor Bay Springs Sawmill, Mississippi, upgrading the facilities fire pumps by installing two new 2500 GPM pumps to enhance the mill's safety infrastructure.

Simultaneously, the team of five upgraded the Wolf Tech Dynamic Tensioning System (DTS) - adaptable to any planer mill line - which results in a significant boost in production and operational efficiencies. This advanced system ensures constant pressure in the milling process, to overcome challenges like dry bug kill, frozen wood, or thin boards.

Situated on a sprawling 148-acre site in Bay Springs in Mississippi, Interfor Bay Springs sawmill became part of Interfor's portfolio in 2021 through a strategic acquisition from Georgia Pacific. Specializing in the manufacturing of 2 x 4” and 2 x 6” lumber products, the mill plays a vital role in supplying domestic markets via rail and truck.

West Fraser, a major player in North America's timber industry, fortified its Newberry County sawmill operations with a $17.7 million investment, marking the third expansion in a decade. This strategic move not only creates 30 new jobs but also positions the facility for enhanced modernization and productivity, following in the footsteps of successful expansions in 2014 and 2016.

The Newberry sawmill, located on College Street in Newberry SC, plays a pivotal role in West Fraser's diversified wood products portfolio, producing lumber, engineered wood, and other items like pulp, newsprint, wood chips, and renewable energy. The company's commitment to quality and innovation is evident in its continuous efforts to compete globally, reflected in the acquisition of an additional 60 acres of land to accommodate the growth.

This expansion and the accompanying upgrades underscore West Fraser's dedication to remaining a formidable force in the global lumber markets.
